To see my notes from the evening, click here. The typed text went just over 6 pages in my notes. Last night I attended a meeting with Mike Lee, a man who is considering running against Senator Bob Bennett in 2010. Actually, "considering" might be the wrong word. Though he hasn't made an official announcement yet, Mike gave every indication that he intends to run against Senator Bennett. My initial impression of Mike is very favorable. He appears to have a love of and dedication to the Constitution. As a lawyer by trade, he has a deep understanding of the history of many historic legal cases and their resulting impact on today. He was respectful to Senator Bennett, but also clearly explained where he disagrees with some of the decisions Bennett has made recently, particularly Bennett's support of the TARP legislation. I appreciated his openness in responding to questions, and also that he wasn't afraid to say "I don't know" when he didn't have a ready answer. As I sit here, trying to think of a downside to the evening... nothing comes to mind. I'll have to get to know him better. There are some topics that did not come up that I need to ask him about, including foreign relations, Iraq, Afghanistan, and the "War on Terror" (still a lousy name).
